Part 2: The call to action

This article expands on the concept of the watchman introduced in the first chapter and emphasizes the imperative for Christians to engage actively in the cultural, political, and spiritual realms. It is not enough for believers to merely recognize their responsibilities; they must also take decisive action to influence society for the better.

The “Call to action” is rooted in Scripture. There are many examples of prophets and leaders in the Bible who were called to confront evil and advocate for justice. These biblical figures serve as models for modern Christians, illustrating that standing firm in faith often requires courage and a willingness to speak out against wrongdoing.

Many Christians are hesitant to engage in social and political issues due to fear of backlash or controversy. This reluctance can lead to a passive faith that ultimately allows cultural decline and moral decay to go unchecked. We call on believers to overcome this fear and step into their roles to support watchmen or be the watchmen. Silence in the face of evil often equates to complicity.

A significant requirement of Christians is the need to be informed and educated about the issues that affect society. Effective action begins with knowledge. We encourage Christians to understand the cultural, political, and social challenges they face, as well as the underlying philosophies that drive these issues. By being well-informed, believers can articulate their positions more effectively and engage in meaningful dialogue with others. Ignorance is not an option for those who wish to be effective at this present time.

Prayer and intercession are also foundational aspect of the Christian response to societal challenges. Some Christians will have specific callings in this area. Also the watchmen themselves need to be earnest in this area. They need to seek God’s guidance and wisdom in their efforts to listen to the Spirit how they are to effect change. Also prayer (and praying in the Spirit) empowers believers to act with courage and clarity, allowing them to discern the right course of action in complex situations. The battles we fight are of a spiritual nature and we must take up our full armour that has been provided.

Another key point is the emphasis on community engagement when confronting civil government. Believers should not act in isolation but rather collaborate with one another to promote positive change. They advocate for local churches and Christian organizations to work together, pooling resources and talents to address societal issues effectively. A united front amplifies the impact of efforts and demonstrates the power of Christian fellowship.

There is also the necessity of engaging in the political arena. Christians have a responsibility to participate in the governance of their local and district communities, all the way through to national level, and not get caught up in the darkness and greed of “professional politicians”. Believers should not shy away from politics but should instead bring their values and beliefs into the public sphere. This includes voting, advocating for just laws, and holding elected officials accountable to biblical principles.

In conclusion, this article serves as a clarion call for Christians to take decisive action in addressing the governmental, moral and spiritual challenges of their time. We encourage believers to be informed, engaged, and active in their communities and the political arena, all the while relying on prayer and unity. By stepping into their roles as watchmen, Christians can profoundly influence society and promote a culture that reflects God’s truth and justice. The time for action is now, and each believer has a vital role in shaping the world for good.
