- Christianity was never designed to be a sub-culture
- Christians are the “salt” preventing unrestrained moral decay and the “light” to dispel the darkness that threatens to engulf society.
- The danger of self-preservation – a consequence of the frailty of the flesh is the human instinct to retreat into self-preservation when faced with hostile opposition. Most people dislike confrontation and would rather back down than escalate hostilities.
- Many Christians compromise their faith today because they want to appear non-judgmental and sometimes even “politically correct”. John 15:18-21
- Hatred and persecution are an unavoidable consequence of uncompromising Christianity
- Self-preservation tends to put our comforts ahead of our sacred responsibility to be “salt” and “light” in the world.
- Scripture warns against seeking popularity in a godless world system “Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever wants to be a friend to the world makes himself an enemy of God” James 4:4 E.g if Archbishop Desmond Tutu spoke out against the abortion holocaust or upheld the Scriptural condemnation of homosexuality he would immediately lose his hero status and invite worldwide criticism for his “intolerant religious fundamentalism”. However every Christian is presented with this choice.
- A lie can only gather strength and influence when it is not challenged by the truth. God commands HIS children to expose evil than help it along by our ignorance or apathy or fear. Ephesians 5:8-11 “…and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them.”
- Uncompromising Christianity never falters, even in the face of massive opposition.
INFLUENCING SOCIETY
- Humanists / communists despite the proven bankruptcy of their ideas tend to invest more time, energy and money in advancing their diabolical objectives in society than those advancing biblical truth. They believe in and invest in their cause.
- Christians often appear the most apathetic group when it comes to advancing their values in society. Is it because we must be seen to be “nice” to people, we must not offend others, “non-offensive”,- so we remain silent or fail to act precisely when we should. 1 Peter 2: 7, 8. Christians who care more about what others think of them and less about their responsibility to God ultimately fall into the trap of being people pleasers.
- What can I do as an ordinary citizen to make a difference in society?
- Jesus went about “doing good” Acts 10:38. “Doing good” can also be translated to mean “working to advance what is in the best interest of society” Jesus demonstrated His “love” by opposing injustice and wickedness in society.
